Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is great art. Special care is taken in every painting, from the planning stage all the way to packing and delivery.
Oil paints are pigments suspended in slow drying oil. Due to the nature of the oil, these paintings are made over a longer period of time and are generally painted in layers. The oil makes for better blending, but these paintings are a time consuming and careful process. This is generally my preferred medium.
Acrylic is a much faster drying medium and can be worked with in a shorter period of time, but it doesn't have the same blending properties as oil based paints. While it's certainly possible to use acrylic for realism, it's often best suited for more abstract pieces.
